Buried deep down on the dems proposed infrastructure bill, is a rule putting the federal government in charge of rezoning single-family homes out of your neighborhood and replacing them with multi-family low-income housing.
So if you’re thinking of moving into a quiet neighborhood where you can safely raise your family, then think again because Biden is implementing a federal takeover of local zoning laws.
If this plan is approved by the Senate, then it would essentially be reviving a previous Obama-Biden program known as the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing, or the AFFH rule.
This program was swiftly ended by the Trump Administration and for good measure.
This plan would force suburban zones to build high-density housing for low-income residents right in the middle of your peaceful neighborhood – never mind what anyone who actually lives there thinks about the matter…
This AFFH rule gives the HUD power to force communities who want access to development grants to meet a certain racial distribution quota.
Housing patterns were considered discriminatory if the minority representation isn’t evenly distributed across the jurisdiction; Obama’s so-called plan for ‘balanced housing’ forced towns to make it affordable for low-income minorities to choose suburbia.
Hidden under the pretense of racial justice is a power grab from the left to raise taxes across the country by forcing towns to re-zone and expand all infrastructure to accommodate high-density living. Towns that refused this would also lose federal aid…
Naturally, this plan favors those who give up control by offering a large sum of taxpayer handouts to towns that agree to surrender to the HUD bureaucrats.
Single-family homes are considered potentially ‘discriminatory’ – supposedly because minority members might not be able to afford them.
But now more than ever we are seeing families of all ethnicities wanting to move out of cities and into quiet suburbs, where the biggest barrier is money.
Former Lieutenant Governor of New York Betsy McCaughey pointed out the undeniable bias the left has towards suburban living, “Politicians love single-family zoning and exclusivity for themselves, but not for the rest of us.”
She’s probably to Westchester County homes like the $1.7 million home in Chappaqua purchased in 1999 by Bill and Hillary Clinton…
Or the Biden’s six-bedroom $2.7 million Beach mansion on the Delaware shore with a view of the Atlantic Ocean — hardly an area accommodating low-income families.
There are better ways to increase income mobility among minority groups. As pointed out by the Wall Street Journal editorial board, expanding school choice for children is one of just a few ways to provide better opportunities for proper education that aren’t determined solely by their zip code.
The Biden Administration’s plans for re-zoning suburbia are only going to raise taxes and further segregate our nation while killing the ideology of ‘American living’.
