FRANK OCEAN ENCOURAGES EVERYONE TO MOISTURISE

Some men are more than happy for their grooming regime to consist of shaving with disposable razors and washing their faces with grimy bars of soap, but others, like Frank Ocean, are more fastidious.

The singer-songwriter is the cover star of GQ’s February 2019 issue and in the accompanying interview he chats about everything from making his Instagram public to covering “Moon River.”

But, if there’s one thing we need to take away from the interview, it’s Ocean’s commitment to skincare.

Chatting with Vegyn and Emmett Cruddas, hosts of his Apple Music show, Blonded Radio, the 31-year-old voiced his annoyance at fellow artist Pharrell Williams for not sharing the secret to his youthful appearance, saying: “It’s been all these years, and Pharrell still hasn’t given us the keys yet.

“He just says ‘exfoliate,’ but it’s not just ‘exfoliate’: We need more keys.”

Unlike Williams, Ocean was more than happy to share his top skincare tips, revealing that he likes to use a night cream and is a big fan of retinol – an ingredient derived from vitamin A that encourages the production of collagen, improves the appearance of sun damage and lines, and evens out skin tone.

“I really do believe in a night cream,” Ocean said.

“I feel like men just go to sleep. They may wash their face or they don’t even bother – they go to sleep with the day face on. You really need to do a gentle wash and put a night moisturiser on.”

He continued: “You can’t have the retinol in your creams in the day because it makes you more sun-sensitive, so you wanna throw that on at night.

“I need the night cream because when I wake up I feel very beautiful, moisturised and ready to have people making eye contact with me.”

Ocean also extolled the virtues of sewing a silk lining in your hat to avoid irritation, especially during the winter, or if you have sensitive skin.

The tip was passed on to him by his mother, Katonya Breaux.

Ocean’s fans have been quick to take note of the singer’s skincare recommendations with many announcing their newfound commitment to night cream on social media.

“Frank Ocean just dropped his skin-care routine. Fellas we staying moisturized all 2019,” one person wrote.

Another added: “The only thing I care about this morning is Frank Ocean’s opinion on how men don’t pay enough attention to their skin.

“He’s out here riding for night creams! We have no choice but to stan!”
