Kamala Harris’ Electricity Bill Reduction Claim Disputed by Experts

Kamala Harris claimed that the Biden administration reduced electricity bills for working families. However, energy experts and business owners have criticized her comments.

Harris Gets a Reality Check on Electrical Costs

Harris recently claimed that the Biden administration reduced electricity bills for working families.

The vice president said, “We reduced heating and electricity bills for working families. Folks have more money in their pockets to buy things. [These include] school supplies, [replacing] the dishwasher, or [taking] a family vacation.”

To no one’s surprise, the demo-rat was criticized for that…

One California restaurant owner, Jeff Kacha, stated that his restaurant’s electric bill has risen to $8,000 a month… despite Harris’ claims.

Kacha emphasized that the money the administration claims saved families needs to be visible to him. He has not seen a decrease in his bills. The restaurant owner added that he would have to raise prices… or cut costs to compensate for the unexpected increase in expenses.

“We don’t have it. Well, we have a lot more bills,” He said. Kacha is also worried about the Biden administration’s push for Americans to transition from gas to electric… especially for his restaurant.

The restaurant owner stated that it is difficult to cook with an electric cooktop, and it is constant power just moving. He added that gas works better for his business. However, the White House is trying to alleviate gas and move to solar power, which Kacha is unsure about.

Harris’s claim of reduced electricity bills for working families has been disputed by Jeff Kacha… who argues that the administration’s policies led to increased expenses. Kacha also expressed concerns about transitioning to all-electric kitchens in his restaurant and the feasibility of solar power.

Energy Experts Slam Harris’ Remarks

Energy experts have called Harris’ comments misleading. They noted that most Americans had experienced increased utility prices… since Biden and Harris took office. According to the Energy Information Administration:

  • Residential electricity prices have increased by nearly 24% since January 2021
  • The average electricity price increased by over 22% in that same period

The average spot price for natural gas surged to $6.45 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) in 2022. This was after increasing to $3.89 per MMBtu in 2021. On the other hand, the annual average price of natural gas was at most $3.15 per MMBtu under the Trump administration.

The National Energy Assistance Directors’ Association (NEADA) advocates for policies that ease energy price burdens on low-income Americans. They reported that the number of Americans filing applications for low-income energy assistance had surged… from 4.9 million to 6.2 million. This was the largest one-year increase since 2009.

According to NEADA’s Directors, Households will face significant increases in home heating expenditures. “Households will increase in home heating expenditures this winter compared to last year,” they said.

On average, families will pay 12.7% more for home heating this winter. Natural gas expenditures may also significantly increase by 14.5% more than last year.
