Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams play sisters Sansa Stark and Arya Stark on the award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones. Like many others, we’re sad that it finally ended after an incredible eight-year run.
Thankfully, the brilliant chemistry between Williams and Turner onscreen has translated into an adorable friendship in real life. Not only will Williams serve as one of Turner’s bridesmaids for her upcoming (second) wedding to Joe Jonas, but the best friends also have matching tattoos of the date they booked their huge roles on Game of Thrones.
Their close bond had actually led to speculation about whether the actresses are more than friends. Last night, when Turner was a guest on Conan O’Brien’s namesake show, he asked how she felt about the theories that she and Turner were a couple.
“We fully knew about it, we played into it. We did,” Turner tells O’Brien on-air. She also reveals that she and Williams would even troll people on the show based on the rumors.
“So on the set, we would kind of do the scene, then try and kiss each other in the middle of the scene and see if anyone would react, and it’s Game of Thrones, so incest is so normal that they were like, ‘All right, that’s fine,'” Turner says. “Yeah, it was probably the most tame thing that happened on the show, actually.”
When O’Brien pressed if they embraced the rumors as a joke, Turner had a cheeky response. “Yeah, you know, sometimes you just wanna make out with your best friend,” she says.
Turner is currently on a promotional tour for her leading role in X–Men: Dark Phoenix with co-stars Jessica Chastain and Michael Fassbender. The Louis Vuitton ambassador has been serving up some major looks throughout the tour including a tiny LBD by Mugler in Paris and a killer Paco Rabanne chain mail dress at the Chasing Happiness premiere in Los Angeles.
