WH Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has blamed Republicans for rising crime rates nationwide. She also defended Biden’s policy on immigration at the border.
Some people criticized her statement… saying that it didn’t make sense and didn’t explain the problems with the policy.
Others said that the policy wasn’t working because too many people were coming across the border, and the laws weren’t being enforced…
Jean-Pierre Blames GOP for Crime Surge
Jean-Pierre recently avoided questions… about the re-election loss of Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. Jean-Pierre said she was “going to withhold commenting” on the race.
Instead, she blamed Republicans in Congress for the surge in crime rates nationwide…
Jean-Pierre accused Republicans of taking steps that contributed to rising crime. The demo-rat highlighted their criticisms of Democrats’ crime policies.
She touted President Biden’s “accomplishments” in addressing the crime. Specifically in:
- Calling for the recruitment of more police officers
- The ban on “assault weapons”
Jean-Pierre also mentioned how Republicans want to defund programs such as:
- The COPS program
- The FBI
- Border security funding
Crime rates in Chicago became a central theme in the recent mayoral race as rates skyrocketed around the city… leading to low approval ratings for Lightfoot. Voting results showed Lightfoot in third place following the previous election. She should have made the April 4 runoff between her top two opponents.
According to Jean-Pierre, Biden is committed to working with whomever the people in Chicago choose to represent them…
Jean-Pierre avoided answering a question about Lightfoot’s loss in the Chicago mayoral race… and instead focused on blaming Republicans for rising crime rates across the country.
Jean-Pierre Defends Bidens’ Border Policy
Jean-Pierre faced criticism on social media for her recent statement on Biden’s border policy. This was during an appearance on MSNBC’s “All in With Chris Hayes.”
Critics ridiculed her for the substance of her statement, in which she:
- Discussed Biden’s border security goals
- Accused former President Trump of gutting America’s immigration system
During the speech, she stated that the administration would move forward with an immigration system… that had “truly gutted” America ” MSNBC’s by the last administration. She also promised to secure the border. “
Critics pounced on Jean-Pierre’s statement. Some called it “40 seconds of total nonsense” and a “complete word salad.” Others criticized the substance of what she was saying.
At the same time, one senator said that the Biden administration was making illegal immigration legal… by not enforcing existing laws. A representative from Iowa questioned the administration’s claim that its immigration policy was humane… citing statistics about deaths at the border and instances of sex trafficking.
Conservative voices also criticized the lack of clarity in Jean-Pierre’s statement. One commentator said the White House press secretary could not defend Biden’s border policy.
Critics pointed to the increasing numbers of migrants crossing the border and the lack of enforcement of existing laws as evidence that the administration’s policy was not working…
